There was a time when the unusual festival would feature other milder activities such as dancing around the maypole, tug of war and bobbing for apples.

Teacher being Investigated for Cutting Students Hair


A friendly bet between a wrestler, Carla Fontes, and her high school coach, Stan Haraguchi, has led to the suspension of the coach and investigations by the police. The coach thought that Carla Fontes’ hair, which was flowing below her waist, was interfering with her performance at the game. Carla Fontes had not cut her hair since she was in intermediate school. The bet was that if Fontes lost the match, the coach would cut off her hair. She later lost the match, following a 3-0 start last week.
